Creative Speed Dating success

18 May 2015

On Wednesday 4th February, Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre hosted its third Arts & Business Creative Speed Dating event funded by Somerset County Council’s Creative Industries Development Fund.

Creative couples had just four minutes to network with one another to find a common ground, explain their profession, what they were looking for from the session and to discuss potential collaborations.

The event was opened with an inspiring speech from Alex Coulter, Director of Arts & Health South West, who explained the impact that arts involvement has had on scientific practices and shared some important arts projects that have had a profound effect on medical patients’ well-being from all walks of life.

Attendees were also treated to a 10 minute acrobatic performance from Pocket Fluff Productions. Their routine symbolised some of the core values of the evening and showed how a portion of collaboration, a sprinkle of support, a wisp of imagination and a hearty dose of fun can combine to create a wonderfully creative venture.

There was a fantastic turnout with 43 different businesses and arts representatives in attendance from press, illustrators, coaches, accountants, florists, graphic designers, arts centres, performers, authors, food writers, musicians, make-up artists, shop owners and many more.

The event was a huge success with 100% of attendees saying that they thought the speed dating concept was a good way to network and 96% of attendees saying that they would come again. Here are just a few comments that were gathered from attendees after the event.

You can also view a short film, which contains some information about the evening and includes short interviews conducted with some of the attendees on the night, at the bottom of this page.

“Felt good to meet other creative people – not many in my immediate surroundings, and I’m home based to not interacting in that way much in person.”

“I loved the creative balance and variety of the evening – an intellectual speech to get your brain active, opportunity to meet new people and the wonderful performance from Pocket Fluff.”

“I enjoyed socialising in the foyer, everyone seemed to be in a great mood and really willing to chat which made it a really relaxed enjoyable environment.”

“The novelty of the speed dating set up also broke and ice and it was good fun.”

“Well done to everyone involved in the event. Very useful. I hope there will be more. It was fabulous to creatively reconnect with someone I had not met for 30 years.”

“I think it was a really fun successful evening. The friendly atmosphere was paramount and that was due to the warm welcome of the staff so thank you for that. I got what I wanted out of it which was to practice networking and get inspired by other people’s stories and discuss opportunities and gain some valuable advice.”
