31 March 2015

Welcome to the Summer 2105 season of shows, events and classes at Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre and what a feast it is… from Shakespeare to SISTER ACT there really is something for everyone!

Welcome to the Summer 2105 programme of shows and events at Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre and what a feast it is… there is something for everyone!  We are delighted to host three hugely popular musicals this season. We kick off with Taunton Amateur Operatic Society's humorous and highly professional production of SISTER ACT; the innovative SPACE Company bring you The Addams Family the Musical, a satirical parody of the horror genre retaining many of the features of the 1960's TV show, as well placing it firmly in 2015... come and join Morticia, Gomez, Uncle Fester and the rest of the family in a romantic plot with a haliariously ghoulish twist! Finally we welcome, Muses Theatrical Productions and their brand new adaptation of Little Shop of Horrors which is also part of the Taunton Live programme with events taking place across Taunton from the 17th – 25th July. We are delighted to be supporting this local venture which aims to establish Taunton as a creative and cultural hub for the arts.

Also as part of Taunton Live, Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre welcomes the return of the high quality, highly accessible Pop-up Opera with their entertaining adaptation of Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri. Throughout the festival, choose from a series of workshops for all ages, including dance, singing, musical theatre, early-years fun and driftwood craft. Cube Essential Theatre Company also return with the Summer Holiday Theatre School for 7-11 year olds between 20th-24th July, packed with games, fun and a free performance to family and friends!

The summer season really is full of variety of creative opportunities for everyone. The annual Page is Printed Festival returns, including the Page is Printed Creative Writing Competition and the Page to Stage playwrighting opportunity - both of which have a deadline for entries of the 1st May. Why not try your hand at writing, whatever your age... there are cash prizes to be won! The Reduced Shakespeare Company headline the Page is Printed Festival weekend with a hilarious, irreverent, fast-paced romp through the Bard’s 37 plays - in 97 minutes! The literary theme continues on the 24th June with acclaimed crime writer Chris Ewan hosting Partners in Crime, an evening of conversation with internationally recognised crime writers Andrew Taylor and Ann Cleeves. A fascinating night to get you guessing who did it as well as giving you advice on your own writing.

Brilliant Vamos Theatre Company return to Tacchi-Morris with their heart-warming tale Nursing Lives. Some of you will remember Finding Joy, Vamos' wonderful play about dementia last year. Theatre goers will also enjoy the return of Blue Apple Theatre with their performance of Much Ado About Nothing which will be followed by a fascinating Q & A with the cast. For those who enjoyed the film the Imitation Game and the story of Bletchley Park you will love Idle Motion’s innovative performance That Is All you Need To Know integrating personal testimony and multimedia technology to celebrate humanity’s determination to crack the impossible code and save thousands of lives in war.

If comedy and pure jokes are you thing, you are guaranteed aching sides when Gary Delaney (Sarah Millican's husband no less!) joins us with his show: PuristBallet Theatre UK bring a glittering, classical adaption of Aladdin and Norwich Puppet Theatre's are back with a fresh, new re-telling of the favourite tale of Red Riding Hood for the younger audiences!

With all of these shows and so, so much more - we look forward to welcoming you very soon!
