Winning Writing Workshop with Chris and Clare!

9 March 2016

Local authors Chris Ewan and Clare Donoghue led such a fascinating, sold-out writing workshop, Clare is booked to lead another in May!

Sara Loveridge, Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre's Marketing and Events Officer, took part in the recent writing workshop How to Write a Crime Novel led by local authors Chris Ewan and Clare Donghue. Here is her review of what was a great day had by all:

Two local published authors led an inspiring workshop on Saturday 27th February. Chris Ewan and Clare Donoghue offered a brilliant insight into how to write a novel, and although focused on the crime genre, the day proved to be a very useful tool for any writer.

The mixed ages and abilities of the participants was testament to the accessibility of the workshop, with everyone from complete beginners looking for advice on how to get started, to a number of published authors who were simply in need of some fresh inspiration and ideas. This created a really open atmosphere of sharing and exchanging ideas, and I found the event to be a really good way to meet and network with other writers.

The day was well structured, with Chris offering useful advice and techniques on developing story ideas and plot and Clare providing invaluable information and tips on how to develop interesting characters and dialogue. Through some interactive and engaging group writing exercises, the authors challenged us to consider many approaches to writing we possibly may not have previously explored.

Overall I think the day offered excellent value for money and I came away feeling really inspired. As an added bonus we were given a handy booklet which summarised all the topics we had explored during the day, and a tasty lunch! I’m really looking forward to the next workshop in what looks set to be a regular - and popular - fixture at Tacchi-Morris.

Feedback for other participants:
