View From A Vanishing Point
Space, both physical and mental, is a fundamental necessity for our well-being. We become quiet, if only for a moment, by the sea - a contemplative state triggered by looking at an uncluttered horizon, much like seeing a magic moment of light that illuminates a distant hill on a dark day. By reducing the figurative elements in his art, Simon Cook touches on these mindful experiences and shares the delight of wordless encounters.
Using the technique of transparent pigments built up in multi-layers to produce a sense of depth, the reflective qualities of gold, silver and metal leaf are used to maximise the luminosity of each piece. As light changes so do these beautiful paintings.
