Opportunities for Young People
During show nights students from Heathfield Community School welcome patrons into the theatre, check tickets on doors and show theatre-goers to their seats. This opportunity provides students with a great chance to experience the inner workings of a professional theatre, gain some valuable work experience and customer service skills and of course enjoy some fabulous shows for free!
Each show night we have about eight front of house students on the theatre doors - so it's a great opportunity to meet new friends and discuss the theatre!
Each year we have students from all over the county come for work experience placements. Work experience at the centre offers you a full insight into life at the centre. Students get to experience what its like to be part of a performing arts team - going into lessons that take place during the day; often stduents are involved in preperation for shows - helping with the set, learning how we rig and focus the lights and assiting in the tech box; students also get the opportunity to volunteer on show nights.
To apply for a work experience placement or to enquire about volunteering contact Nicky Morgan on 01823 414144 or email [email protected]
Classes, Youth Theatre Companies and Youth Dance Companies
We run a wide range of classes for young people, from informal theatre groups to professional companies - giving young people a taster of what its like to work in the industry. All our classes offer young people a chance to build on their skills, to grow in confidence and to meet young people with similar interests. All our classes also give students a taste of what its like to perform - from Fun Feet who do termly 'sharings' for parents and grandparents to Connect Youth Theatre who have staged several full-length shows, from TYDC who are hosting their own dance platform marking the centenary of World War One to Blitz Dance Company who regularly share their work in our end of term community shows.
The Somerset Performing Arts Centre for Education
As well as offering lots of opportunities to volunteer, Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre also works very closely with The SPACE (The Somerset Performing Arts Centre for Education). These post-16 students, who are training for a Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing Arts (equivalent to 3.5 'A' Levels), have the opportunity to train in all aspects of arts management: learning technical skills in terms of lighting and sound; filming and recording productions; front of house management - including box office and duty management, as well as set-building and design. Students also have the opportunity to develop their artistic skills by regularly working alongside professional visiting companies.
