The Troth: Akademi South Asian Dance UK
Akademi South Asian Dance UK present
The Troth / Usne Kaha Tha
A physical dance work that tells a story of love, loss and sacrifice against the backdrop of the horror and conflict of World War I. Inspired by Film Noir and the era of black and white films, The Troth/ Usne Kaha Tha is a live theatre production which unfolds its poignant narrative through powerful interplay between dance, music and film.
Akademi is marking the centenaries of World War I, Indian cinema and the first Hindi short story, with The Troth/ Usne Kaha Tha: a project that reveals the contribution, sacrifice and human cost of Indian soldiers to the allied war effort. Directed and choreographed by award-winning Gary Clarke with a diverse cast of multi-lingual dancers.
“An act of remembrance, an emotionally charged piece of movement…it unfolds with poignant clarity” (Fergus Morgan, The Stage)
“Very poignant and moving…a fitting tribute to the 60,000 soldiers from these parts who perished in the horrors of the First World War” (Asian Culture Vulture)
